Meta description similarity
A domain's meta description similarity provides a numerical value for how similar in meaning its meta description is to the meta description of the principal domain.
NOTE It is not always possible to obtain metadata for a domain, so this score is not always available for every domain in a report.
Calculating meta description similarity
We use OpenAI to compare meta description texts, and report the similarity as a normalised score between 0 and 1. For example, consider this meta description:
We are the Partnership Bank. We provide simple, flexible, financial services to UK customers directly and through partnerships with well-known UK brands.
Here are some sample comparison scores:
Meta description | Meta description similarity |
---|---|
We are the largest UK retail and commercial financial services provider, with 26 million customers and a leading digital presence. | 0.9457 |
At Bank of Kneebonia, whether you're looking for a business bank account, business loan, asset finance or something else, we're here to help business customers. | 0.938 |
A globally connected network powered by businesses across Northern Elbonia. Discover what NE Chamber can do to help your business grow. | 0.8921 |
The most user-friendly app for events. Organize an event in a moment and engage the audience using networking, social wall, notifications... | 0.8659 |
In practice, almost all meta description similarity scores are between 0.7 and 1, or 0 (zero scores occur when it has not been possible to obtain metadata for a domain). Only scores of 0.9 or above should be regarded as 'significant' when considering this metric.
